Call for all-party co-operation - 02/05/08Following the county council elections in which Plaid Cymru became the largest group on the County Council, Plaid have called for all the parties in Carmarthenshire to work together for the good of the county. Plaid Cymru's Goup Leader, Cllr Peter Hughes Griffiths, said: "In our manifesto for this election, we said that we wanted to democratise the council, and ensure a full role for all councillors of all parties. The cabinet system which includes members only from some of the parties, and which takes decisions with little or no involvement by other councillors is fundamentally flawed." "A continuation of the coalition between the Independent Group and the Labour Party, which excludes what is now the largest group on the council, would be a rejection of the voice of the people of the county." "We are calling for the setting up of an all-party board to run the council, and are calling on the other parties to recognise the result of the election and work with us to achieve that aim." |
