Plaid on Track to Win Control of Council - 05/04/08

With 60 candidates standing for Carmarthenshire County Council on the 1st of May Plaid are well on track to take control of the Council. The maximum number of seats the independents can win is 45, and Labour only managed to field 43 seats out of a total of 74 on the council

Plaid Group Leader said:

"We have by far the largest number of candidates that we ever had, We are already certain of four councillors (3 unopposed and one opponent only in a two seat ward in Saron), Labour so far have none, and the Independents only two."

"To have overall control we need to win 37 seats. The excellent results in the Assembly Elections in Carmarthen East, Carmarthen West and in Llanelli shows that the electorate support us and if they come out and vote the way they did last May, we will win control of the Council and be able to move Carmarthenshire forward with our radical manifesto commitments."
