Money for YFC and Urdd - 31/03/08

A Plaid run Carmarthenshire County Council would provide funds for the Carmarthenshire YFC movement and the Urdd each to employ a full time ‘Development Officer’ to strengthen youth opportunities in all corners of the County.

Speaking at the Plaid Cymru Spring Conference at Newport last weekend the Carmarthenshire County Council Plaid Leader Peter Hughes Griffiths praised both movements for filling a gap within youth activities that the County Council itself should be providing.

"Both these movements through their local clubs and voluntary club leaders are providing such a valuable service to their communities and youth work. Carmarthenshire County Council should provide them with funds to employ development officers to expand even further their work with our youth," Said Cllr. Griffiths.

He also outlined how the Plaid Manifesto for the County Council Elections on May 1st includes the need for an in depth ‘Review of the County’s Youth Service and Provisions.’

"We want to implement a new strategy for a network of Youth Activity Centres in appropriate buildings within communities throughout Carmarthenshire." he added.
